My most personal writing to date is about intimate partner violence and its affect on children and their aspirations.

“Tell Your Sons” began as an essay reflecting on an experience with a person who saw my flaws were the result of my mother’s influence rather than that of a masculine role model. It became something in which I understood my experience as colored by growing up around violence.

On Father’s Day (which I just learned was here), I decided to write something I never thought I’d write, to encourage fathers to talk with sons about respect, emotions and gratitude.

Find it here as well as as a repost on Feminist Current.
